The idea is simple: a waterproof, windproof outer shell, a zip out thermal liner, and a zip and popper assembly that comes apart and goes back together quickly. The shell holds up to rain and snow and forms a barrier the cold does not get through, while the liner wears on its own as a jacket in its own right. Five colours, from sky blue and charcoal grey to beige, off white and red.
It covers three seasons instead of one, from a weekend in the mountains to the daily commute. Separate the two layers before washing. Machine wash cold, inside out, no fabric softener and no bleach. Air dry on a hanger, away from any direct heat source, no tumble drying and no ironing directly on the coated surface or the zips, which distort under heat. Once dry, store the two layers separately rather than assembled: the liner keeps its loft better and the shell does not crease at the folds.
